The President and members of the Presidential Council of the Government of Peace issued a strongly worded statement condemning the recent Iranian attacks that targeted the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the Sultanate of Oman. The council described the attacks as a serious violation of state sovereignty, a direct threat to regional security and stability, and a breach of the principles of good neighborliness and international law.
The Presidential Council affirmed its full solidarity with the brotherly states and its support for all legitimate measures they take to protect their national security and safeguard the safety of their territories and citizens. It also reiterated its condemnation of all forms of aggression that threaten the stability of the region or undermine the regional security system.
The statement stressed the need for all parties to exercise the utmost wisdom and restraint in order to avoid sliding into cycles of escalation and to prevent the region from turning into an arena of international conflict that threatens regional and global peace and security.
The Presidential Council also pointed to the growing risks posed by the expansion of networks of extremism and armed violence in the region. It expressed concern over reports of connections and coordination between elements of the Islamic Movement in Sudan and Iranian entities, including reports that Sudanese militias have received training inside Iran. The council warned that such activities represent a serious threat to Sudan’s security and regional stability and require firm action from the international and regional community.
The statement concluded by emphasizing that the security and stability of the Gulf states represent a fundamental pillar of regional security, and that respect for state sovereignty, adherence to international law, and refraining from the use or threat of force remain the best path toward consolidating peace and achieving the aspirations of the peoples of the region for security and development.
